VUDUeoke Tuesdays takes Videoke to a higher level.
Karaoke, better known in the Philippines as VIDEOKE is a very popular form of entertainment here and abroad in which an amateur or professional singer, young and old alike sing along with recorded music and or music videos with the use of a microphone and public address system.
As it gained popularity, technological advancements have allowed the voice of the original singers removed or muted; the lyrics are displayed on a video screen along with a moving symbol or changing color and or music/video images that serve as a guide for the singer; it has likewise allowed the use of buttons to enter the number/s of the preferred song.
Karaoke machines were also no longer being sold strictly for the purpose of karaoke but as home theater systems to enhance television watching to movie theater-like quality. As home theater systems took off, karaoke went from being the main purpose of the stereo system, to a side feature.
And as more music became available for these machines, more people within the industry saw it as a potential form of lounge or nightclub entertainment with high-end sound equipment than the small stand-along consumer versions. Dance floors and lighting effects have long become common sights in these bars. Lyrics are even often displayed on multiple TV screens around the bar.
While Videoke bars vary in size and set-up, at VUDU we call this VUDUeoke -- VUDU's answer to have something different that would to cater to its weekday crowd. Held regularly on Tuesdays, VUDUeoke Tuesdays is one of the latest additions and innovations to its line-up of weekly happenings. Since it was first launched in May 2009, it has become the strongest and most popular weekday activity not only in VUDU but in the whole of Cebu.
VUDUeoke is the VUDU version of karaoke that lets amateurs and non-amateurs unleash their inner rockster – in front of an actual audience who gather in front of a large video screen mounted on a wall supported by TVs for everyone to see; song books with the latest song selections along with request stubs are passed around as hosts Jay Chiongbian and Andrew Sarmiento entertain and call on the songbirds to perform either in their seats, on the ledges, with friends, and always in front of everyone else in the main room. It has become such a weekly habit that VUDUeokers already have their own VUDUeoke Anthems.
Now on its 5th month, VUDU along with RCTV take VUDUeoke to another level with the search for the 1st VUDUeoke ICON. VUDUeoke ICON is patterned after the famous international singing competition AMERICAN IDOL except that the competition is conducted using a Videoke Machine where music videos and lyrics are flashed on a video wall and where one has the freedom to sing their hearts out and perform. A total of Ten (10) contestants will compete for the grand finals in January 2010 based on selected criteria and will be aired over Cebu's only infotainment cable channel RCTV Channel 36 over a 4-month period and viewed globally online through www.rctv.com.ph.
